PGI exam: Women constables to frisk female candidates

According to PGI officials, the institute has hired 30 constables from the Punjab Armed Police to frisk female candidates before they enter the examination hall.
The institute, which doesn't have regular female security staff, had initially approached the Chandigarh police. The latter would provide 140 constables, including 40 female personnel, but not for frisking. They would be deployed outside the exam centres.
Sources said that the 30 Punjab police constables would be paid honorarium equal to that of invigilators on examination duty.
All male candidates will be frisked by the PGI's own security staff, which has been provided special training to detect unscrupulous examinees. The examination will take place at 10 centres in the city. The security arrangements include scanning through bug detectors, mobile jammers, photography and biometric fingerprint recording.
Earlier on Friday, PGI dean Dr Amod Gupta directed institute employees, including doctors, on examination duty not to bring cell phones or other gadgets inside the centres.
