Dr Dipmoni Saikia, the key player in the sensational Dr Sarita Tasniwal  murder case , was arrested  this morning  after a marathon  interrogation  at the Sadar Police Station here. Dr Saikia was arrested on the basis of  confessions  made by the casual ward boy Kiru Mech, the alleged murderer, several co-relating events and depositions made by witnesses. Kiru Mech was arrested on the day of the crime on May 9. The mystery surrounding the sensational murder case of Dr Sarita Tosniwal deepened today following the arrest of another postgraduate doctor of the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH). Dr Deep Moni Saikia, a senior colleague of the deceased, was picked up by the police last night for interrogation. Satisfied with the circumstantial evidence gathered during the investigation as well as the statement provided by the arrested ward boy, Kiru Mech, the police formally arrested Dr Saikia today. However, the arrested doctor, who hails from Kachu Gaon of Nagaon District, has denied his involvement in the crime. Assam police have claimed to resolve the sensational murder case of Sarita Toshniwal in Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) at Dibrugarh after the arrest of a post graduate medical student today. Police traced Dr Dipmani Saikia, a colleague of Ms Toshniwal, following the confessional statements of  ward boy  Kiro Mech, who was arrested soon after the murder took place on 9 May 2014.  Sarita, a first year PG medical student of AMCH was found murdered in her gynaecological department chamber. Her throat had been slit with a surgical knife. The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) recently wrote to medical associations across the state to ask them to proactively stop the illegal practice among doctors of giving cuts to fellow medical practitioners for referring patients. The MMC is the quasi-judicial body that oversees the working of doctors practising modern medicine. "We will reach hundreds of associations that conduct continued medical education programmes through our accreditation programme," an MMC official said. MMC president Dr Kishor Taori said the statutory body wanted to start a campaign against the commission practice. "We want to start a mission by asking each association, be it for radiologists or surgeons, to sensitize their members against this unethical practice," Taori said. Dr Dipmani Saikia, a 2nd year PG student of Obs & Gyne dept. at Assam Medical College was arrested on Wednesday by  Dibrugarh   police. He was picked up by police on Tuesday evening. According to police, Dr Saikia orchestrated the killing of Dr Sarita Toshniwal last Friday. Police is meanwhile grilling Dr Saikia in this regard. A first-year post-graduate medical student, Sarita Toshniwal, was found dead with her throat slit inside the doctor's chamber of the ICU's gynecological department on May 9. Ward boy Kiru Mech, who was arrested, later confessed to the gruesome murder. The blanket-covered body of Sarita Toshniwal was discovered on a bed inside the doctors’ duty room in the ICU. Despite the Assam health minister's announcement of a CBI probe into the murder of a post-graduate woman medical student inside the ICU of a state run hospital, its striking junior doctors refused to suspend their protest agitation till concrete steps were taken. "We will recommend a CBI inquiry into the killing (of Sarita Tashniwal of Assam Medical College Hospital here)," Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said today after meeting striking junior doctors of the AMCH protesting against the Friday's killing. "Till the CBI starts its probe, the state CID will continue with its investigation," he said adding the case would be tried in a fast-track court and the guilty would be brought to book at the earliest. The ward boy accused of murdering Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) post-graduate student Sarita Toshniwal was appointed by the hospital authorities without police verification, revealed an investigation. Police officers investigating the case said Kiru Mech, the murder accused, was appointed about eight months ago without even a minimum background check that led to Toshniwal's gruesome murder. Mech, a known criminal, was arrested on charges of theft a couple of years ago. He hailed from Chiringhola village near Lahowal in Dibrugarh district and used to stay at his father-in-law's house in Bongaigaon, located just behind the AMCH campus.
