Image
The Supreme Court has agreed to have a relook at its judgment scrapping the single common entrance test for admission to MBBS, BDS and postgraduate courses in all medical colleges, which was delivered three months back. The court decided to grant oral hearing to the Centre and other petitioners who had sought a review of its July 18 majority (2-1) verdict that had quashed the notification for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) on the ground that it violated the rights of private institutions to administer such institutions.A Bench comprising Justices H.L. Dattu, A.R. Dave and Vikramjit Sen, issued notice to all private and minority medical colleges on whose plea the apex court had scrapped NEET.A review petition is normally decided in chamber proceedings without giving an opportunity to parties concerned to argue the case. The judgment quashing NEET was delivered by a three-judge Bench headed by (then) Chief Justice Altamas Kabir.‘POLICY IS LEGAL’His view was shared by Justic…

Doctors may have to pass twin tests to bag PG seats

Medical graduates will have to take two tests before they can pursue post-graduation, if a new proposal of the Medical Council of India (MCI) gets the nod.
In a recent meeting, the MCI proposed that the entrance exam for the post-graduate course, which assesses the theoretical knowledge gained during graduation, should be held immediately after the final MBBS exam and before the beginning of internship. Graduates will be expected to take the licentiate test, which will test them on practical understanding of medicine, after their internship.
At present, the PG entrance exam is held after internship and there is no licentiate test.
The decision to advance the PG entrance exam stems from numerous complaints that MBBS students don't take their internship seriously but instead get busy preparing for PG entrance tests. The last year of the five-and-a-half year MBBS course is set aside for internship.
MCI chairman Dr R K Srivastava told that the council discussed its vision document recentl…

Overcoming Restlessness in PG Preparation

Image
The pull of the world tends to keep our minds scattered and diffused. As long as we make a habit of skipping from one activity to the next, from one train of thought to another, our restlessness prevents us from experiencing calmness, which is the doorway to true peace and happiness.
We had a friend who habitually did several things at once. She would eat a meal while talking on the phone and reading a book at the same time. It wasn’t until she contracted a life-threatening illness that she realised she was skimming restlessly over the surface of her life, without enjoying any of it. She saw that her restlessness was blocking her ability to feel joy.
After her recovery, she and her husband made several simple life changes. They began to slow down deliberately in order to experience whatever they were doing. We had lunch with them in a beautiful garden that they had created together. We could feel the peace and joy that they were now experiencing.
To overcome restlessness, we need to make…
